Whether did Chiang Kai Shek "loot" or "safe-keep" those artefacts from mainland, depending on one's perception.

According to our guide, if Chiang did not bring those treasures with him after his 1949 defeat, would these antiques survived the chaotic period of "Cultural Revolution" of the 1960s?

据导游的说法如果当年老蒋没把这批文物迁移台湾,这些古董能躲过像"文化大革命"的洗礼吗?

Jiofen
This small hill-top tiny enclave outskirt of Taipei gained its prominence because of an award-winning movie "City of Sadness".

Nowadays, Jiofen is a place for anybody who would like to experience the old Taiwanese way of living.

The small, narrow path flanked by shop houses is considered the "spine" of the enclave, that will lead tourists to the top of the hill, where a scenic view of Keelung is visible (not for our case, as it was too misty.)

古早味浓的九份因一部"悲情城市"而名声大噪.

窄小的行走道为它的"血脉",道路两旁都售卖带有早期台湾的一些道地小吃如"竽圆","卤肉饭"等等.

只可惜雾气太大,一到山顶无法看到基隆市的景观

I hope you guys are not drooling now but it was a simple yet enjoyable lunch in Jiofen, where simple dishes like braised meat rice, minced meat noodles, meat ball soup and etc. were what we had, in a nice, simple yet cosy environment .

How clog rejuvenated a sleepy town
In part of the rejuvenating process, small estates like Bai-Mee (literally means "White Rice" in Mandarin) need a tool to kick start it in order to see its survival.

And Clog-making was chosen and being credited to the successful transformation of this sleepy neighbourhood of I-lan county.

Prior the use of the imported Alaskan timber, locals would normally used timber that were easily available near the forest of the town till the recent years.

白米与木屐的不解情
木屐跟宜兰县白米社区是脱不了勾地.

据说,木屐让这个不起眼的小镇恢复了生命力.

它不但为白米社区引来不少观光客,也大大改善此地居民的环境及生活素质.
